It all starts with a moment of beauty. Everything—colour, mood, light, texture—comes together to compel me to capture that moment. Adding cold wax to oil transforms the process of painting into something akin to sculpture. I use a catalyst wedge and scrapers to move and mold the paint, which brings a sense of energy and body to the piece that can’t be achieved with paint alone. It also results in a matt finish that brings a luxurious depth to the image. I love to go back and reveal the process by scraping away layers to create levels of detail and texture.
I use mainly wood panels and canvas boards as my surface. The texture of the canvas is very much part of the finished piece whereas the wood panel provides total flexibility. I love what I do; I hope you love it too.
